When All Seemed Lost”

In the world of graphic design, we often face unexpected challenges that test our creativity and technical skills. Recently, I had the opportunity to redesign a logo for a friend who found herself in a difficult situation due to her graphic designer being unreachable. Although I am an audiovisual producer with only basic graphic design knowledge, this project gave me the chance to apply what I know and assist someone important to me.

The Problem: A close friend contacted me worried because she couldn’t locate her graphic designer, who was in another city. She needed urgent changes to her logo, specifically in the supplementary text, but did not have the file in an editable format such as vector. She tried to make the changes herself, but the results were not satisfactory.

The Solution: I decided to take the bull by the horns and help my friend by recreating the logo from scratch. I used Adobe Illustrator for this purpose, searching for a typeface similar to the original to maintain the design’s essence. Although an expert graphic designer might have completed the task quicker, I was grateful to have the necessary skills to assist her.

Process:

1. Analyzing the Original Logo: I carefully examined the original design to understand the fundamental elements that needed to be preserved.
2. Recreating the Design: I began drawing the logo in Illustrator, making sure that each element matched the original style.
3. Typography Selection: I chose a font that harmonized well with the design, maintaining a professional and cohesive appearance..
4. Logo Versions: I created several versions of the logo: with a white background, no background, in color, and in black and white, in PNG and SVG formats to ensure functionality across different media.
5. Final Adjustments: I made some color adjustments requested by my friend to ensure the logo met her expectations.

Development of the Identity Manual: In addition to redesigning the logo, I decided to create a basic identity manual for “Thara.” This manual doesn’t include all traditional elements, but it does contain crucial information such as the color palette, typography, and logo usage that will ensure consistency in all future applications. Here are some key details:

  • Text Color: #39194F
• Typography:
  • To ensure a professional and cohesive appearance for the logo, I chose Metropolis-Bold, a font that harmonizes well with the overall design. This selection was made through a careful search using Google FontSearch, aiming to match the original typography as closely as possible. Additionally, to ensure the chosen font maintained accessibility while preserving quality and consistency, I used www.whatfontis.com to find similar fonts that matched the desired aesthetic.

Result: After about four hours of meticulous work, the logo was ready. My friend was thrilled with the outcome and now has a logo that she can use for all her business and promotional needs.

Conclusion: This project was a reminder of the importance of flexibility and adaptability in graphic design. Although my specialty is audiovisual production, I enjoyed the opportunity to delve into a different area and solve a creative problem. Graphic design is more than just creating attractive images; it’s about solving problems, and in this case, saving the day for a business.
